If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you should definitely join The Fellowship. The Florida Chapter has been an answer to prayer for hundreds of folks involved in music and other worship arts for over 50 years. Don’t wait until the next workshop to join–join now, and begin receiving Worship Arts, our national publication with timely articles about the issues we deal with Sunday to Sunday (or Sabbath to Sabbath). Festival of Choirs Performing in Gainesville

Dr. Nelson is Director of Choral Activities at Emory University, and the Artistic Director of the Atlanta Sacred Chorale. Nelson’s choirs have performed throughout North America and Europe, including Krakow, Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, Moscow, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Spivey Hall, Piccolo Spoleto Festival, and both the Southern and National Conventions of the ACDA. He received his training at Houghton College, Westminster Choir College, and Indiana University.

Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church is honored to once again host the annual Festival of Voices Finale Concert. Festival of Voices is a premier honors choir experience for promising young choral musicians presented by the USF School of Music and The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. Students from many area high schools participate in this 2-day workshop (Friday, September 24^th & Saturday, September 25^th), during which they sing side-by-side with members of USF choral ensembles and The Master Chorale. The first day of the workshop will be held on the USF campus. The second day of Festival of Voices will culminate in an outstanding finale concert at 4pm in the sanctuary of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church.

Grant K. Pulen Music Scholarship

Apply now for 2011:

The Grant K. Pulen Scholarship, named for a founding member of the Florida Chapter, provides an award of $1,500 to a fulltime student in music at an accredited college or university.

Applicants must be a member of the United Methodist Florida Conference, or have attended the Youth Music Workshop of the Florida Fellowship prior to appplication.

Rosene Publishes Book on Chimes Special Effects

A good friend of The Florida Chapter, Dr. Paul E. Rosene of Orlando, Florida has written the definitive book, Special Effects for Handchimes. Since the use of handchimes, both as a “stand alone” ensemble and also with handbells is so widespread, there was a need to educate handbell directors on how to interpret “thumb damp,” “table vibrato,” and other special effects found in the music. Dr. Rosene is Professor Emeritus of Illinois State University, and an authority on the use of handbells and handchimes. He is widely used as clinician, conductor, and consultant. Florida Chapter Now a Public Charity

The Florida Chapter–The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts is now exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are further classified as a public charity. This means that the chapter can now receive contributions that are tax deductible under section 170 of the code. We are also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under section 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the code. Please contact us if you would like to make a tax-deductable contribution.

Scholarships for First-Time Workshop Attendees

Do you want to attend the Workshop for the first time, but need help with the fees? Apply for the Rosie—Jean Scholarship! To qualify, you must be recommended by a current Fellowship member, and you must join The Fellowship upon attending the Workshop.

The value of the Rosie-Jean Scholarship is $200, and covers the adult registration fee. Recipients must pay their own room & board.
